“The beginning of wisdom is fear of the Lord, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” — Proverbs 9:10
Wisdom starts with believing that there is a God.
But, that belief starts out as fear—the fear that God will judge us according to our deeds.
People start doing good things and avoid doing bad things because of the fear of God.
Even through fear alone, the world can be a better a place if every one believes in God.
But God doesn’t want us to stop there.
When you know God deeper, you begin to understand that God is love.
“Whoever is without love does not know God, for God is love.” — 1 John 4:8
The fear of the Lord is the beginning. But, it’s just the beginning.
The fear of the Lord is perfected by love.
When you know God, you become more loving. You become more purposeful. You start building relationships. You start doing good things out of love and not out of fear.
Love becomes the center of your life. God becomes the center of your life.
That’s why we are all called to make disciples. We are called to make people believe in God. Then, to make people believe that God is love. Most of the time, make people believe in God through us, through our love.
Only then can the world be a better place.
“Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age.” — Matthew 28:19-20
