Watching the news almost always makes me feel hopeless, especially with all the crimes, the conflicts, and the corruption being reported. Sure, the media report “facts” and “actual” events and it’s important for us to know what’s happening around us and be involved.
But, I believe that there are also stories of hope, of kindness, of love, of faith, of optimism, and of every good thing. They just don’t sell as much as negative news. After all, kindness is not “news.” Kindness is all around us. There is kindness in every single day of our lives. Kindness is still the norm. Negative news is just louder.
We can't see kindness only because we take it for granted. But, it is always there. We just have to look for it.
Unfortunately, what we pay attention to is what we plant in our lives and we often pay more attention to what’s louder. Since we pay more attention to negative news, we reap more negative news and it only seems to get worse.
Kindness is just as real as negative news. It is still more commonplace or ordinary. I still hope deep in my heart that the media would change their focus, even if it means being able to “sell” less. But, we can always start with ourselves and plant the right seeds in our lives.
Change what you consume, right?
P.S. And it's not just changing what you consume, but also changing what you share on social media.
