Sit down. Don’t stand up. Don’t stand out. If you do, your classmates will call you a teacher’s pet.
Don’t study hard. If you do, they will call you grade conscious. You won’t be very popular and you won’t have many friends.
Don’t pursue big, crazy dreams. If you do, you might fail and your officemates may laugh at you for being too ambitious. In case you do succeed, you may not be able to relate with them anymore. It’s lonely at the top. It’s much lonelier to eat lunch alone.
Continue watching TV. Otherwise, you might feel out of place when people start talking about AlDub or Pastillas Girl.
Don’t stay away from gossiping. That’s what people usually talk about at work. You don’t want to be out of the loop or be called a kill-joy, do you?
Dumb down your ideas so more people can understand you.
Create mediocre products or do a mediocre job. It’s safer that way. Don’t take risks!
Lower your standards so you’ll reach the masses.
Live a mediocre life so more people can understand you.
If you want to follow and be part of the crowd, don’t take responsibility of your life and just let things happen.
But, if you want to live your life to the full, if you want to do work that matters, if you want to create art, if you want to be great, you have to be prepared to uphold your standards. You have to be prepared to make unpopular decisions. You have to make the difficult choice of letting people go.
If you want to live your life as an adventure, you have to be prepared to go at it alone. Not everyone will understand you, let alone join you in your journey.
But, in case you decide to take the road less travelled, we’ll be there walking beside you. We’re not as many, but every step will be more fulfilling. Trust me.
What kind of life do you want to live—a life of always pleasing other people but losing yourself in the process or a life of being true to yourself even though it's not popular?
You decide. The choice is yours.
