Do Not Please People Who Won’t Like You No Matter What

I am a people-pleaser. I grew up trying to please my parents, my teachers, my classmates, and my friends. Now, I’m trying to please my bosses and officemates. Oh, and I'm also trying to please the readers of this blog.

That’s why I have become a seemingly agreeable and amiable person. Seemingly. But, that’s also why I get overly worried when one person doesn’t like me or agree with me. I get paralyzed and inaction takes over. I end up accomplishing nothing.

You’ve heard this so many times, but I’m going to say it anyway: You can’t please everyone. No matter what you do, there will always be some people who will find a reason not to like you or what you’re doing. There will always be some people who will disagree with you and your views.

Then, you won’t be able to get anywhere with your dreams, with your goals, and with your plans. You will always be worried about the very few who will not agree with you and what you’re doing. You will get paralyzed and stuck in inaction.

Instead, focus on the many who really need you and your insights and the countless more your actions will inspire. You just don’t know how many people need you to take action. You just don’t know how much the world desperately needs someone like you. So, don’t allow the very few to stop you.

Do what you’ve always dreamed of. Take action. Make your plans and dreams happen. Live your life the way you want to. You just don’t know how many people you will inspire by doing so.

Give your best to the people who will make good use of it.

“Do not give what is holy to dogs, or throw your pearls before swine, lest they trample them underfoot, and turn and tear you to pieces."
