Let us do things not to prove anything to others, but simply to love. To love God, our families, and our neighbors.
Do you do what you do to please other people?
In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus tells us that, sometimes, even the people closest to us will not accept us:
“Jesus said to the people in the synagogue at Nazareth: ‘Amen, I say to you, no prophet is accepted in his own native place.’” — Luke 4:24
We cannot please everyone. No matter what we do, there is nothing that can change the minds of those who simply do not like us for whatever reason.
It is also a liberating thought because it frees us from always having to prove ourselves to others.
Even God loves us unconditionally. We do not have to prove anything to Him. His love for us is unchanging. If we do not need to prove ourselves to God, then all the more that we have nothing to prove to others, even to our loved ones.
Why do you do what you do?
From this day forward, let us do things not to prove anything to others, but simply to love. To love God, our families, and our neighbors.
